It’s official!

Food Jules LLC is officially a business. So, let’s get started!

I will be baking some items for the Monroe Farmers Market during this summer. If you are interested in checking out my goodies, you can visit the Market on Fridays from 3-6pm, opening on June 24th. I may also be selling some items with a friend at the Brickwalk’s Farmer’s Market in downtown Fairfield.

More information to come as we get closer to the summer time. Let’s get cooking!

What’s your favorite?

Food is so much fun, isn’t it? It’s pretty to look at, it’s fun to cook, and it’s delicious to EAT! We are so lucky to have so much variety of food in this country. Why would anyone want to eat fast food when there is so much more to explore?

Thai is one of my favorites and last night we had it for dinner. YUM! My dish of choice is the shrimp and chicken drunken noodle! It’s spicy, it’s got great flavor and it’s a noodle dish. The fresh basil really makes the dish. Since I love drunken noodle so much, I’ve tried my hand at making it at home with good results. Of course, it’s not exactly the same as the dish you find at Thai restaurants but when you’re craving it, it’s pretty easy to pull together. So, why is it called Drunken Noodle? Some believe drunken noodles are an excellent hangover cure but no one really knows for sure.

Is it that complicated?

Cooking vegetarian meals may seem boring and complicated, but it’s easy!

What I found useful when cooking vegetarian meals, is that you don’t need to make a “vegetarian” recipe. You can change many of your favorite, meat or fish meals into vegetarian dishes. For example, when I make tacos, I have two saute pans on the stove, one with ground turkey and the other with ground tofu. If I make chicken parmigiana, I use the same ingredients to make tofu parmigiana. (Actually, one of my cousins preferred the tofu parmigiana to the chicken.) Even with lasagna…. I’ve never made a meat based lasagna and always found that a spinach and cheese lasagna is much tastier, it’s healthier and it’s vegetarian!

Try one of these all time classic meals and turn them vegetarian one night. You will be presently surprised at how tasty it is and how to get your vegetables!

Which one would you pick?

The most moist, delicious, healthy, banana nut muffins have just come out of the oven. These are spectacular and made with all natural/whole-grain ingredients. I made half of the muffins plain and the other half with a crumb topping. Which one would you pick?

Isn’t that something?

It’s snowing today…. the first day of Spring! After my post last night, remembering the first day of snowfall on the day Julian was born and now here it is again, on the first day of Spring. Isn’t that something?

There’s only one thing to say, “Hello baby Julian”.

A trip around the world!

Tonight, at Lilliana’s elementary school, we are having an International Festival with food, crafts, music and entertainment from around the world. It’s going to be a blast. I am going to LOVE eating all the food, especially the Spanish, Indian, Italian and Portuguese and everything else for that matter! 🙂 Today is officially my last day of the cleanse and I will begin eating again. Well, I already did eat a couple of those pasteis de nata that I made, fresh out of the oven but who can resist those?

I made Pasteis de Bacalhau (fish and potato fritters) and Pasteis de Nata (custard cups) to represent Portugal. These two items are a staple in Portuguese cuisine and so very, very, very delicious. (I’m not biased, of course) Made with all natural/organic ingredients, no preservatives in these pasteis!

Pasteis de Bacalhau

This was my first time making Pasteis de Nata. I made the dough from scratch and the filling and they were both fairly easy but a lot of work! I’ve been in the kitchen making these two dishes from 9am and it’s now almost 2pm! But, I have to admit, it was a lot of fun and quite an accomplishment to make the Pasteis de Nata. I’m looking forward to watching everyone enjoying them tonight. That will make me very happy!

Lucas was my official taste tester for both dishes and he LOVED them so I’m hoping they will be a hit with the kids tonight. No pizza for any of the kids at Lilliana’s school tonight, they need to eat all of this delicious food that parents spent time, energy and money making for them! After all, it is an INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL!

Now, it’s time to go outside and enjoy this beautiful day with Lucas. One question for all of you, what am I going to do with the leftover custard?
